EGT Facility Creates New Export Opportunities for American Farmers

Innovative design, cutting-edge technology sets Longview terminal ahead of the competition

Jul 9, 2012, Longview, WA — EGT held a grand opening ceremony today for its grain export terminal – the first built in the U.S. in 25 years. The facility’s innovative design features and state-of-the-art technology enable it to operate with greater speed, flexibility and efficiency than other terminals. These efficiencies help reduce the amount of time it takes grain to travel from field to market, helping to increase export opportunities for American farmers in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

EGT’s operations also bring a tremendous local benefit, nearly doubling the number of ships calling at the Port of Longview annually and generating millions of dollars in revenue for the local community.

“Our Longview terminal will help expand economic opportunities for American farmers to meet growing demand for grain in Asia,” said EGT CEO Larry Clarke. “In our industry, efficiency and speed are critical to success. Farmers need to know they can deliver grain from field to market as quickly as possible and EGT’s innovative design, technology and dedicated workforce make us the most efficient terminal in the marketplace.”

Ambassador Islam Siddiqui, Chief Agricultural Negotiator with the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) delivered the keynote address, providing an overview of U.S. trade policy and opportunities for continuing growth in agricultural exports.

“As our economic recovery continues, agriculture is truly leading the way,” said Ambassador Siddiqui. “Last year, U.S. agricultural exports reached a record high of $137.4 billion, and supported over 1.0 million American jobs.”

EGT’s facility has been scaling up operations since receiving its first export vessel in February, servicing more than 20 vessels and exporting more than 1 million tons of grain. The terminal is expected to handle as many as 200 ships per year, with an annual throughput capacity of 8 million metric tons.
